READING HOMEWORK
Daily reading is essential for your child to grow as a reader. Each 4th grade student should read for 30 minutes each evening (at least 2 hours weekly). We do not ask that your child formally logs his or her minutes, but expect parents to hold their child accountable and make sure they are reading each day. Reading minutes can include being read to by a parent, but most of your child's reading minutes should be independent. Many parents have reached out to us asking how they can discuss their child's reading with them at home. In the link to the right, you will find "Parent Pipeline Letters" that are a great resource for parents to look through. The parent letters include different reading strategies and how you can help at home. Another concern that parents have brought to our attention is how to motivate their children to read different genres. In fourth grade we use a "Reading Challenge Punch Card". Students will earn rewards for reading different genres in school. This is something parents can continue at home as a motivator for their child. |

The files below include detailed information about what we are doing in school as well as how you can help your child at home. Please note that although the files are referred to as "Homework Resources for Families", your child's only regular ELA homework is to complete their daily reading.
