Unpacking Standards: Science Objectives
Quarter 1: Landforms
We will learn about the different landforms on the surface of the Earth. Students will be investigating the difference between weathering and erosion.
Quarter 2: Animal Studies and Moon Phases
We will learn about our animal studies unit. We will have African Dwarf Frogs, Fiddler Crabs, and Millipedes in our classrooms. We will observe physical and behavioral adaptations of the animals in class. During our second unit this quarter, we will study the phases of the moon and causes of day and night.
Quarter 3: Rocks/Minerals and Forms/Interactions of Energy
We will learn about rocks and minerals in class. Students will observe rocks and minerals in class to identify properties. We will perform tests to identify minerals. During our second unit this quarter, we will study different forms of energy and the various ways light can travel.
Quarter 4: Electricity/Magnetism and Food, Vitamins, Minerals
We will begin the quarter studying magnets and electricity. Students will identify properties of magnets and explore a variety of circuits and conductors/insulators of electricity. Our second unit will have us investigating how different foods, vitamins, and minerals nourish the human body and provide energy.
